Tension
was described as the most powerful part in this piece, which I agree with.
Another comment about this sculpture is that the hand-made quality of every
cast being different than the next gives it a kind of raw energy. I believe
that this artist touch is important to my practice, and that even though I want
to invoke ideas of mass production I want to remain physically connected to
everything I make. I was pleased that the sculpture was interesting and scary
for people to look at, and that a feeling of foreboding anticipation of its
soon-to-be demise if it fell correlates to my idea of cheap durability in our
current construction of the built environment. Another part of critique that I
found particularly interesting was the viewers take away of knowing how much
labor was put into this piece, and that it added a romantic quality due to this
temporary beauty at risk of destruction.
Questions
I have after critique is that this piece is a very installation based piece and
can be reconstructed in various ways. What I want to know is any suggestions on
whether I should make this a performance piece about destruction, by either
letting it slowly on its own crash, or I partake in the performance with this
sculptural object in stacking the pieces until it falls from its own weight. Or
If I should do a relief installation of all the connecting pieces and focus on
the way it is PVC and can an S design repeatedly flat on a wall.
